Thrifty Fashion Finds: H&M Haul

Everybody’s had that moment. You’re walking through town, minding your own business. Maybe talking to a friend or listening to some tunes; when all of a sudden you see it. Red, white and obnoxiously large, it’s a sign. No, not one of those signs, a real one decorated with four letters that can make or break you (and your bank balance): SALE! You have to make a decision – Do you run to safety, where no 50% off stickers or student discounts can tempt you? Or do you brave the masses and go inside; hoping you can find just one thing that remotely fits you? Well this was me a few weeks ago, outside H&M contemplating what I should do, and as you may have guessed by now, I couldn’t resist the charming wiles of the infamous red and white sign. So, I thought I’d share the outcome of my lack of will power – Hope you enjoy!

Asymmetrical Dress
Whilst I normally tend to go for short dresses that I can pair with thigh high socks (anything to make me look a little taller), I was drawn to this fab asymmetrical dress due to the funky grey marl fabric. A stylish steal for only £4 (down from £14.99), I’m slightly besotted with the speckled material because it gives the dress so much character. Although I was initially sceptical about the length of the dress, as longer dresses tend to make me look short (a department I don’t really need any extra help in), I was swayed by the whole chic yet grungy feel the dress gives off with its rolled up sleeves and high - low hem. Whilst I’ve paired it with my favourite Primark sandals to give the look a little pizazz, when it eventually gets a little colder, I’ll definitely be embracing the 90's vibes by wearing it with chunky cardigans and my oxblood Doc Martens.

Suede Skirt
The seventies revival has been dominating the fashion world recently, with flared trousers, bell sleeved shirts and fringed jackets all making a comeback. However the biggest trend to be brought back by this 70’s flashback is suede - Chic, understated and oh-so glamorous, suede is one of the most fashionable fabrics around, so you can understand how thrilled I was when I bagged this fab little suede skirt for only £8 in the sale. Effortlessly stylish with its intricate embroidery and retro hue, this skirt has quickly become a firm favourite of mine because it’s perfect to wear all year round! Whilst I’ve styled it simply with my Topshop cami vest for an easy going summery look, I can’t wait for it to get a little colder when I can wear it with polo necks, thick black tights, chunky boots and of course a wide brim hat!

T-Shirt
Whilst this grey marl t-shirt may seem like a fairly basic purchase in comparison to my other snazzy finds, for £3 it’s definitely been worth it. Simple yet stylish, t-shirts have long been relegated to lazy day outfits, when in fact they’re one of the most versatile (and fashionable) items you can own. Whether you’re going for an interview, heading to a seminar or simply getting your groove on at a party, t-shirts are the ultimate staple piece because they’re so easy to style around! Just adding a blazer, a button up shirt, or if you’re feeling really 90’s even a dress can transform a basic tee into something so much more. Whilst I’ve gone for a classic combo by wearing the t-shirt with my Cheap Monday skinny jeans (second hand from Depop), I’d like to think that by adding a hint of jewellery and slipping on some trendy shoes, I’ve given the look some much needed flair.

Faux Leather Jacket
Colourful leather jackets have been all the rage recently, so when I spotted this off-white beauty in the sale for £20, I thought I’d mix things up a bit and try the trend out for myself. Whilst it’s definitely not as daring as the bold reds, blues and even yellows that have been taking the fashion world by storm, as a lover of the classic black leather jacket, it’s a big change for me. Adding some much needed contrast to my wardrobe, this jacket has quickly become my favourite find of the haul, and although I was initially uncertain about its pearly complexion, I now love the sophisticated yet sassy style it brings to my outfits!

Have you had any success in the H&M sale recently? Would love to hear about your own thrifty finds!
